Paradox Designs

This is a bit late, as the game has been out for a while, but those of you who still are interested, or those who haven’t bought it. It has proven to be a most interesting game. While the fundamental gameplay is quite similar to that of the previous game, the mechanics are completely different.

Gametypes

Geometry wars 2 has several new gametypes. The gametypes are unlocked throughout the playing experience, by playing several games on the previously unlocked gametype. Unlocking isnt hard, and can be accomplished in a day (I did it, and so can you). When every gametype is unlocked, you can choose which one you want to play on. They vary from the classic mode to a mode where you have to sit in a bubble to shoot. They can mix up gameplay and make it much more interesting.

Multiplayer

GW2 introduces several new multiplayer elements. While there is no xbox live multiplayer, there are a number of options for a local console. There is a versus mode, in which up to 4 players can compete with each other, as well as co-op modes, where players assist one another, and a one ship mode, in which one person pilots and the other shoots. People seem to love these modes at parties, and its great when more than one person wants to kill time, but doesn’t want to launch into a full game.

Music

Geometry Wars has always had great music, and 2 is no exception. Most of the music in the game is completely new, but it matches the genre of the previous game[1. That is, electronic techno.]. The music from the original game does return, but in a remixed fashon[2. The gametype in which this appears is the evolved gametype]

Gameplay

The basic gameplay mechanic of adding multipliers has changed significantly from that of the first game. Instead of earning multipliers over time with kills, players earn them by picking up geomes, little green dots dropped by enemies when they are killed[3.This system is the same as the Geometry Wars: Galaxy multiplier system on the Nintendo DS]. Each geome adds one level of multiplier, so in an average game, it is not uncommon to get into several hundred multipliers. As such, the average scores are much higher, so instead of scoring a few hundred thousand, most scores are in the millions.

Graphics

This version tends to use more vivid colors, and more variation. The explosions are bigger, and there are more types of enemies. All in all, it would make one badass screensaver.
