Updating a blog can be a hassle. It involves going to your site, going to the admin interface, going to the write pane, then filling out a form, finally submitting it. There is a better way. It is the desktop blog editor. One of my favorite is BlogDesk.
Interface
The interface for BlogDesk is simple and elegant. You are presented with a large text box, a small toolbar, and a pane on the right. The pane on the right displays categories, and then posting options. There are few images and distractions, so it runs fast and light. The toolbar contains the basic most functions, such as font, bold. While I don’t use these, I prefer to write the source, others may like them. All in all, the interface is clean, light, and fast.

Features
BlogDesk is full of features. The best are the support it has for blog systems. While it doesn’t support blogger, that is not an issue for me. Of the systems it supports, it does a marvelous job. It supports tags for those systems, their categories, and even the post options they offer. There is a built in spell checker, and more functionality, so you can write long posts. The categories look like they could support a tree design, but they do not seem to. The tags pane is useful, because it is hidden till you call it up with F8. When called, it pops up, and lets you add tags you have allready used, or imput new ones. The only thing lacking is a tag import function, so you cannot import tags from your blog. Autocomplete could be useful too.

Overview
All in all, blog desk has made updating and maintaining a blog very easy. It allows for quick, clean postings, as well as longer messages, and its elegance is surprising. Its completely free, a boon for some of us poor bloggers. I even used it to write this post.
