Many blogs have a little pane in their sidebars that hilight the amount of spam they have blocked. This is cool, but not really useful,
as it rarely shows you how the spam relates to the comments. So, as i usually do, I decided to stand out of the pack. I have been
playing with the Google chart API for a while (Google Chart API gets better), and this was a good use for the tool, so I spent some time setting it up.

Ingredients

While you could code up your own plugin to do a similar feature, that is beyond the scope of this article. To do this, you will need the
following:

• Akismet or other anti spam plugin. You will also need a function to call to get the raw information from the plugin, that is, the
  count of comments blocked. There is a simple plugin that does this with akismet:
  • Akismet Spam Count by Ronald Heft, Jr
• Comment number statistics plugin. Similar to the previously mentioned akismet plugin, you will need to have a function that gets you
  a count of ALL comments. Surprisingly, there is no function in wordpress that does this.
  • Comment Count by Nick Momrik
• PHP Functionality in widgets. While some themes have this by default (K2 does for example), many do not. The standard widget tool
  does not support PHP, and you will need it for this, so install a plugin that allows PHP, such as "http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/php-code-widget">PHP Code widget
• Google Chart API experience. You don't have to have this, but it helps. Read up at the "http://code.google.com/apis/chart/">Google Chart API page

Setup

Once you have these things installed, setup becomes quite easy. You will need to go to the Widget pane in Wordpress Admin (its under
Design/Presentation). Add a new Text/HTML widget if your theme supports it, otherwise add a new PHP widget. In this widget, enter the
