I have had the Shadowrun game for a while, given to me by a friend, but I only recently opened it. I had heard very little about the game, so didn’t know what to expect. After playing it for 2 days, I feel i can write a comprehensive review.

I like playing Halo 3. I do it quite a bit. But one thing that seems really bothersome is the way Lone wolves plays. I do not enjoy it. The games seem stale and repeditive. There is no variation.

I don’t know when they posted it, but the Google Chart api has gotten much better. They have added a few new types of graph, such as spark graphs (think stock charts), country maps (for viewing data by country), and a cool new graph called a Google-o-meter (like a gauge). This api is getting better and better, and since it has no data cap, i am thinking about some implementations here on this site. Perhaps a Google-o-meter instead of review stars, or a pie chart in polls. The possibilities are really endless.

Double XP

This was my first double xp weekend, in halo 3. This was Creeping Dead weekend [1. Aka. Zombies], and while I do like infection, i dislike the way bungie sets it up. The gameplay they seem to choose is fairy boring, tedious, and one sided. Either the zombies are overpowered, or the humans are. Generally, it leans to the zombies. Also, the various maps bungie uses aren’t exactly fun, and they seem to be the very basic most forge stuff, nothing advanced like over at forgehub. Also, betrayal penalties were enabled. While this is understandable, as people dislike being killed by a friend, games like Creeping rockets [2. Gametype in which the zombies are invisible and humans have lasers and rockets] are not fun, as you may see a zombie, and shoot at it, only to accidentally kill a teammate. Generally, the person you betrayed will always boot you, even if you shout sorry!.

New Map mullings

The new map release is approaching quite rapidly (tomorrow!), and excitement is building. Bungie has released a vidoc about it, in a machinima style. In said machinima, they joke around about several things, including the way that one forge filter makes the game look like gears of war.

Pricing

Many people have complained about the fact that bungie will be charging 800 MS points [3. $10US] for the maps, and has no plan to release the maps for free. People, bungie owns the IP rights for halo, but they do not own the sale rights. MS does. Microsoft still gets to set the pricing and other things. Also, bungie has to develop these maps, and that requires wages, bills, etc, and things to be payed. Finally, its only $10. Thats an hour and a half’s earnings at minimum wage. If you don’t have a job, you either need to stop playing halo and get one, or are too young to play halo.

About a month ago, I started a small project with my friend Seeker. Seeker had made the map Dryout, and it was ripe with features, but poorly applied. The game was fun for simple, silly matches, but for any more serious conflict, it was lacking. So we decided to make a map together. I said I would set up a forums and project management on sourceforge [1. Sourceforge Project Website]. After spending a bit of time dickering with the forums, and reaching something i was happy with, i announced my plans on both tremulous.net and sstcentral. The response was unexpectedly good. Normally, people don’t seem interested in my projects, but this one generated quite a bit of interest. Now, we have several people on the forums discussing the map.

The map is going to be a large, feature rich map, with the help of many people, so we plan to incorporate many things. These wont come about without serious discussion and thought. There needs to be a guiding force, and so as the organizer of the project, I have started to make a general outline of the map, in Inkscape SVG. The key word there is Started. I haven’t finished much more than the outline of a warehouse and 2 hallways, but i will steadily work on it over the weekend. Problem is, I can only think of so much at any one time, so ill start on a creative burst, finish it, and then have no more ideas for a while.

Anyway, if you are interested in contributing (even ideas), swing by the forums for the map. There are many open discussions, so please read over them before posting. No one likes forum morons.
